Meet the Couple Who Asked Their Wedding Guests for Their Blood

The newlywed couple has started their married life with the blessings of their wedding guests as well as all those unknown people who would be helped by the gift they gave. If each one were to take that little effort the world would be a much better place to live in, in a shorter time.

While the traditional bride and groom would have been more than happy accepting gifts that would help them set up a new home, there are couples who like to think outside the box. A couple in Richmond, Virginia, USA, decided to ask their friends and family members for a gift that was very different from what anyone could expect. This couple did not ask for expensive material gifts, but instead went for their wedding guests’ blood, literally!

No, it was not a vampire-themed wedding. It was all about a noble and charitable deed. Meet Monica and Barry Gamble, who asked their guests to donate blood at a hospital as their wedding gift. After their wedding at the Chapel, the couple along with their wedding guests moved to the Virginia Blood Services Donor Center in Richmond. They asked their wedding guests to utilize this opportunity to gift not a toaster but a chance of saving lives by donating blood.

The idea was unique, noble and very inspiring. Only those who have been in critical situations where they are searching for matching blood group can understand how invaluable this thought is. When Barry was asked whether he would miss not getting real wedding presents, here is what he said, “It sounds awful cheesy, but it (blood donation) is a lot more important than a toaster

Well, there are certainly not many people around who would stop by and give a second thought to think about this kind of charity, and even make others do so. Even if someone is socially conscious, it would certainly not be something that they would be thinking of on the happiest, biggest and the busiest day of their lives. However, this couple did and thankfully they had friends and relatives supportive enough of their cause to join them in their small step in making a difference.

The couple regularly donates blood; and so they know the importance and the satisfaction that this deed brings along with it. And, that is what they wished to share with their guests too.

The staff at the blood donation center too showed their appreciation to the newlyweds and the wedding guests by decorating the room to look like a wedding chapel and even serving a cake!
