Mangalore, April 16: Malleswamy,Tahsildar of Bantwal said that the survey works to estimate the total loss of property in the LPG tanker fire at Perne,near Uppinangadi,in which many people have died, has been delayed due to election works.
Though Revenue department had filed a report to the deputy commissioner estimating the total loss of Property at approximately Rs one crore, this survey being under taken by our department in the intention of helping the district administration to assess the loss and collect the compensation from HPCL for the victims of tanker tragedy, which occurred on April 9, Tuesday, he said.
Sources said since the report prepared was” vague” in concluding at the figure, the oil company could not be asked for the compensation to be paid for the victims of the tragedy.
It has been reported that Harsh Gupta-DC has directed the Bantwal tahsildar’s office to re-survey the loss with the help of the public works department.
Bantwal tahsiladar said that he had already requested PWD engineer to assist them in the survey work but election works impede them, he said.
However the fresh report would be submitted to the deputy commissioner within short period of time, Malleswamy opined.
According the reliable sources the district administration has already disbursed compensation of Rs.one lakh to families of victims and Rs.50,000/ to the injured.
Besides there was proposal to provide four cents of land each to the families who have rendered homeless.
