First Cruise Vessel of Season Calls at New Mangalore Port

Mangalore, Nov 8: M V Seabourn Odyssey with 438 passengers and 344 crew anchored at New Mangalore Port on November 7, Thursday which marks the beginning of the cruise season.

This is the first cruise vessel of the season and the 7th vessel calling at the port during the current financial year 2013-14. The cruise season is from November to April.

This cruise vessel which is on its third voyage to NMP with passengers representing 23 nations of the world, of which majority are from the US, Australia and the UK.

Around 400 passengers and crew opted for ground tour arranged by the local tour operators and visited various locations in and around Mangalore like Gokarnanatha temple, Kadri temple, St Aloysius Chapel, cashew processing units, monolithic statue of lord Bahubali at Karkala, 1000 Pillar Jain Basadi at Moodbidri, city shopping, etc. After enjoying the tourist spots of Mangalore, the passengers returned to the vessel and sailed out to Cochin in the evening.

Dr P Tamilvanan, chairman welcomed the first vessel. The captain of the vessel was impressed by the world class facilities available at the cruise lounge, neat and tidy berth area, concreted roads, security arrangements, emigration facility, greenery in and around the port, availability of local ground tour operators, proximity to tourist areas, etc.

The passengers too expressed their satisfaction over their short stay in Mangalore. The next two vessels are expected to call on November 14.
