Mangaluru, December 12: In connection to the Yettinahole Drinking Water Project, the Paschima Ghatta Samrakshana Horata Vedike which has declared a legal fight has once again come down strongly on the government.
Addressing a press meet in the city, the chief of the Paschima Ghatta Samrakshana Horata Vedike Yathiraj said, government has failed to follow the Forest Conservation Act, the Environment Protection Act and Wildlife Protection Act, and it is violating the law by starting the project without environment clearance. The government is conveying a wrong message to the people, he said.
Speaking to the reporters, he said, by wrongly projecting the Yettinahole project as drinking water project, plot is going on to get the exemption from the environmental effects procedures. But the department project report itself says that this is a project to fill the 527 minor irrigation lakes. The Neeravari Nigama is a Nigama that functions by continuously violating the environmental rules. It is a Nigama that commits Environmental offences, he alleged.
Yettinahole project is a environment destructor project. The central governments regional office of Ministry of Environment and Forests should hold back the forest land, he urged.
