Ulaibettu case – Victims say Aboobacquer Siddique attacked them, he is not innocent.

Mangaluru, December 12: After the claims were made that the circle inspector Pramod Kumar of Mangaluru rural police station had arrested a wrong person in connection to the assault case that took place last year in Ulaibettu, the victims of the Ulaibettu assault on Friday December 11th came out in open and gave their statement.

The victims in the case said, was no mistake on part of the police and that the person Aboobacquer Siddique who was arrested in relation to this case was the actual accused.

Addressing a press meet in the city, Gangadhar, a resident of Ulaibettu, who is one of the victims said, they were upset by media reports stating that Abubakker Siddique was innocent.

Last year on December 5th, while we were retuning by auto from a mehandi function, we were severely attacked at Ulaibettu junction. Abubakker and nearly 200 people armed with weapons attacked us. He is responsible for this incident.

“We were living in a tense situation, but after inspector Pramod Kumar took charge, peace has been restored in the area”, he said.

The girl victim in the case, who alleged that she had been sexually harassed, said that Abubakker is not innocent. He was involved in the incident. He assaulted us with weapons and we suffered. “While we were returning from the mehandi function, our auto rickshaw was stopped at Ulaibettu junction and we were attacked. I was shouting for help. My brother also was beaten up,” she said.

About the claims made by Ulaibettu Nagarika Samiti that Abubakker was innocent, she said, there was nothing called Nagarika Samiti till now. The Samiti has emerged just to protect the accused, said the girl.

Manoj Kumar, another resident of Ulaibettu, said that, many cases of assault and harassment has taken place in Mangaluru rural police jurisdiction. We need protection, he said.
