Mangaluru, November 24: In connection to the Yettinahole project, on November 18th the Karnataka Neeravari Nigama Limited (KNNL) tried to mislead the green tribunal in Chennai, alleged the Karavali Jeevanadi Netravati Rakshana Samiti.

Addressing the press meet in the city on Monday, November 23rd, the chief of the Samiti Professor G S Mayya, spoke about the Yettinahole project which is a threat to the life of the people of Karavali, and said, this project is similar to the ‘linear project’ such as that of railway lines, road or electric transmission lines drawing project. Argument has been presented stating that to undertake the work in areas other than the forest areas, the consent from the Ministry of Environment and Forest is not necessary.

But the court has not agreed this argument. But now the work has been continued which is against the law and also violation of the court’s order. Under the Yettinahole project, at eight places in the slope areas of Western Range dams are constructed for the tributaries of the river; at several places 100 kms long pipe line and at 12 places pump house, road and etc have been constructed, hence how can this be a linear project? asked Mayya.

The leader of the Samiti and Deputy Mayor Purushottama Chitrapura, Chief of Fishermen Kumar Mendon, Dinakar Shetty of Horata Samiti, and Uttam Alva were present on this occasion.
