Udupi; District BJP unit staged protest rally to condemn the amendment of Panchayath Raj Act 2013. at Taluk Panchayath office Bannanje.
Speaking on the occasion, the former Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary said the state government’s decision to amend the bill is not acceptable to any party other than the ruling Congress. This act may make GP presidents and members to loose their posts so BJP is demanding to take back the amendment .
He said the government should come forward to safeguard the interests of the grass root level people representatives. Besides, GPs are the representatives closely associated with the public. The GP president or member
may not be in the position to stand up to public demands owing to financial restraints. As the fund extended to them are very much limited.
Uday Kumar Shetty, BJP District president said the proposal for the amendment is passed in Assembly. However the members in Parishath will strongly oppose the amendment when the proposal is placed in the Upper House. He added BJP has majority in Vidhana Parishath.
He added that the state government should concentrate more on administrative aspects in the rule than making the controversial statements and amendments.
