Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project on “Green Energy” inaugurated; Importance of renewable energy stressed

UDUPI: Vinay Kumar Sorake, minister for urban development and Udupi district in-charge, on Tuesday inaugurated the coastal regional office of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP) at Pragathi Soudha in Brahmagiri here.

“With the population of the country is growing we need to start new project to ensure uninterrupted power supply to all. However, attempts should be made not to hamper the nature in the process,” he said.

In his inaugural speech he said that men are not using the available natural resources and are increasingly dependent on the temporary energy sources to fulfill the needs.

He  added that the existence of mankind is on temporary and artificial resources. Instead the for awareness among people over the importance of renewable energy resources are important. The solar energy could be used wisely as the power resource.

Increasing population explosion has made it inevitable to meet the needs of the people in a larger scale.

Programmes initiated by SKDRDP are successful, he appreciated its work. There are 22 districts. The minister added solid waste management programme introduced by SKDRDP in Chikmagalur district is worth model project and the government should avail SKDRDP in the state as a whole.

Presiding over the programme D Veerendra Heggade, dharmadhikari, Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala, said that the coastal region office of the project will cover seven districts – Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, Shimoga, Chikmagalur, Kodagu, and Kasargod.

Dharmadhikari  Sri Veerendra Hegde  also said that the major objective of the programme is to empower the people and to make them enlightened.

He added that Udupi unit is a role model district which has opened up itself  to many successful projects. There are nearly 1.41 lakh members in Udupi with 78 crore profit.

Dr H L Manjunath, SKDRDP Chief Executive Director said that the newly inaugurated regional office in Udupi covers six districts  and revealed that  there is pending of subsidy to nearly 2000 Biogas unit in Udupi district.

He urged Zilla Panchayath to allot the subsidy amount at the earliest to the beneficiaries.
