Mangaluru, November 5: Brisk investigations are going on following the double murder of undertrails in Mangaluru sub-jail. During the investigations on Wednesday, police have found knives and other items from the prison.

Six knives, 16 mobile phones, seven sim cards, seven memory cards, mobile batteries, 10 mobile chargers, electric wire, cutting plier, lighters, electric heaters, electric tester, wires of an iron box and chilli powder were found during the investigation. These items have been seized and a case has been registered in Barke police station.

The investigations were conducted by the police team under the leadership of IGP (Prisons) Anand Reddy, in which Mangaluru police and the jail staffs participated in the investigations. Police Inspectors from various stations also participated in the investigations.

On November 2nd, undertrails Madoor Isubu and his associate Ganesh Shetty were murdered in sub-jail here.

The situation in Mangaluru prison is quite different from that of other prisons in the state. The number of prisoners lodged here are more than the actual capacity. Ranging from underworld dons to pick pocket committing thieves, culprits involved in communal clash including the prisoners involved in various crimes are lodged here.

As there are no safe compound walls around the jail, all the items reach the jail through the compound wall. People climb up the trees standing close to the jail compound wall and drop the materials into the jail. Items are carried to the prisoners along with the food items brought to them. As there are no CCTV cameras, these are done easily, it is said.
