Udupi, September 29: In a joint operation the officials from various government departments rescued 10 children from Malpe port area, where they were employed as child labourers on Tuesday September 29th.
This operation was done after receiving complaints from locals that children had been engaged in picking fish at Malpe port, it is gathered.
The district labour department, woman and child welfare department, district Child Labour Project Society, education department, child rescue unit and Spoorthi Vishvasada Mane, Bantakal and BSW students of Tenkanidiyur college participated in this rescue operation.
Among the 10 children, eight rescued girls were sent to remand home at Nittur and two boys were sent to Vishvasada Mane.
H P Jnanesh- Udupi labour officer, Prabhakar Aachar – project director of district Child Labour Project Society, Jeevan Kumar – labour inspector and other officials took part in this operation.
