Mangaluru, August 22: A person who had objected for three men sitting with women on the front seat of a bus was allegedly assaulted by a group at Ullal, outskirts of Mangaluru on Saturday, August 21st.
The Ullal police had arrested a conductor of another bus, in relation to this incident.
After the arrest, the bus staffs working for other buses plying on Mangaluru-Eliyarpadavu route; staged a protest due to which the passengers suffered great inconveniences.
It is said that on Friday August 21st, three bus employees were sitting on the long seat next to the bus driver in the ‘Bayar’ bus plying from Eliyarpadavu to Mangaluru. Two women were also seated there. A person named Naveen Kumar of Amblamogaru who was travelling by the same bus complained to the bus conductor alleging that the three bus employees were harassing the women.
The conductor then made the three men to rise from the seat and made them to sit at the rear end of the bus.
Out of grudge against Naveen, the three men, along with some persons from Amblamogaru allegedly assaulted Naveen on Saturday who was travelling by the same bus.
Naveen then filed a complaint in this regard in Ullal police station. Among those named in the complaint were Imran, Ansar, Shareef, Rizwan and Ameer, all residents of Amblamogaru.
On the basis of complaint, Ansar and Junaid, who are employed as conductor and driver respectively for ‘Ashwini’ bus plying on Mangaluru-Eliyarpadavu route were later taken into custody by Ullal police.
Following the arrest, a flash protest was staged by the bus employees of the buses plying on this route condemning the fact that police took the two into custody while on duty.
Due to this flash strike, the students, people moving to offices and the public’s suffered great inconvenience.
