Extortion levying high interest: Minister Rai directs for stringent actions against the concerned.

Mangaluru, July 29: The district in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai has directed the Mangaluru City police commissioner as well as the District Superintendent of Police to take appropriate actions against the concerned that are extorting money from the public’s by levying high interests.

In a meeting held with the senior bank officials at the Zilla Panchayat hall here, he directed that the banks not compel the loan borrowers to return the loan. The banks have been emphasized in order to avoid the problems the people face by the finance lenders. In the district, the problems of those who lend loan on high interest have increased. The task of controlling them completely has to be done, he said.

Wide publicity has been already done in Mangaluru and thirteen cases have been registered so far. Instructions are also given to those who lend loan as per the law. Actions are taken against those who do these illegally, informed S Murugan, Mangaluru City Police Commissioner.

Across the district, no complaints have been registered so far regarding the harassment or violence against the loans borrowed. By distributing over 3,000 pamphlets depicting that we are there with the farmers, the police department has undertaken the task of supporting the farmers. Already 6 cases have been registered in the district for extracting more interest, informed District Superintendent of police Dr S D Sharanappa.
