Bantwal, July 11: Due to the incessant rains, the retaining wall of a concrete road collapsed on a house killing a child. The incident occurred at Pudu village in Farangipet on the night of Thursday, July 9th.
The deceased child is Mohammed Arshad (6), son of Haneef, resident of Ammemar Kunjathakal, Pudu village, Farangipet.
The retaining wall along with massive soil collapsed over the rented house of Haneef including four- five neighbouring houses. Upon hearing a big sound, the household of Haneef ran for life. But Arshad ran towards the toilet situated behind their house. At that instant, huge amount of rocks and soil fell on the child. The efforts of locals to rescue Arshad went in vain.
By the time the locals removed the boy from the debris, he was no more.
Arshad’s father Haneef works as a daily wage labourer and lives in a rented house. The house is completely damaged in the calamity incurring losses of lakhs of rupees.
Bantwal rural sub-inspector Rakshith A K and police personnel along with locals under took the rescue operations.
Health minister U T Khader along with former Zilla Panchayat member Ummar Farook visited the grieving family and pacified them. Minister has also assured them of providing calamity relief from the government.
