Mangaluru, May 12: A fight took between two groups at Mogaveerapatna beach in Ullal here in which three persons were injured on the evening of Sunday May 10th.

In order to bring the situation under control, the police had to resort to mild lathi charge. So far four members are arrested.

A group of five members including Alfaz, Naushad, Sinan from Deralakatte had been to the Mogaveerapatna beach on Sunday. While some people were playing on the beach, a ball fell into the water. Meanwhile, two of Alfaz’s friends went to get it.

Some people on the beach warned them that since the sea is dangerous there, they should not venture into the sea to fetch the ball. Fight erupted between the two groups after arguments arouse between them.

The police who were closeby arrived to the spot, but were unable to control the fight. But, when the situation worsened, additional police personnel were called and lathi charge was done to control the situation.

It is learnt that a young girl was injured in a rickshaw accident at Mukkacherry and a mob had assaulted the rickshaw driver from Mogaveerapatna on Saturday. The beach fight erupted as a result of this dispute, said a source.

The lifeguards were also accused as being part of the fight. But Praveen Ullal from the lifeguards’ association has said that no lifeguard was involved in the fight. He also said, as thousands of people visit the beach on Sundays, the area needs a good number of police presence.

Four men including Vijay (40), Jitendra (40) and Vasudeva (35) have been arrested. Ashok (35), who beacame physically challenged in an accident in the past, was also attacked.

A case has been filed regarding this issue. Further investigations are in progress.
