 National Workshop On Konkani Intangible Cultural Heritage

Mangalore,Feb. 05:In order to strengthen the capacity for safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) and enhance awareness and participation of Konkani speaking communities as defined in the 2003 UNESCO Convention on ICH, a National Level workshop is being organized by World Konkani Centre on 8th February 2015 at Mangaluru, Karnataka. Main objective of this workshop is to orient Konkani Communities in the aspects of Identifying and Inventorying Intangible Cultural Heritage of the community.

The Workshop is being organised by World Konkani Centre in association with State Konkani Academies of Goa, Karnataka and Kerala, Universities of Goa and Mangalore and supported by Department of Kannada and Culture, Government of Karnataka.

Dr. Shubha Chaudhuri, a UNESCO recommended facilitator for Capacity Building Workshops for safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage has confirmed her participation as the chief facilitator at the workshop. She is presently the Director of the Archives and Research Centre for Ethnomusicology at American Institute of Indian Studies, New Delhi. Dr. Chaudhuri will facilitate the workshop as chief faculty and guide through the UNESCO convention on ICH and help the community to draft a framework.

This one day workshop will be inaugurated by Prof. P. S. Yadapadithaya, Registrar, Mangalore University and Shri Chandrahas Rai, Asst. Director, Department of Kannada and Culture, Government of Karnataka will be the chief guest. Shri Ronald Castelino, President, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, Shri Pundalik N. Naik, President, Goa Konkani Akademi, Shri Payyanur Ramesh Pai, Chairman, Kerala Konkani Sahitya Akademi, Dr. Kiran Budkuley, Goa University will be the guests of honour on the occasion. Founder and President of World Konkani Centre, Shri Basti Vaman Shenoy will preside over the inaugural function.

Cultural Practitioners, Cultural Activists, Konkani Organisations, Community Representatives, Experts, Researchers, Academicians and Students from Karnataka, Goa, Kerala and Maharashtra States will participate in this National Workshop as discussants.
