Funds of welfare schemes have not reached the beneficiaries- allege the leaders during SC/ST meet.

Mangaluru, February 3: The district-level grievance meeting of SC/STs was held at SP’s office on Tuesday February 3rd, in Mangaluru.

Even though several welfare programmes have been implemented and lakhs of rupees has been sanctioned by the government and departments, the funds have not reached the beneficiaries, stated the complaints.

Somanath, president of Dalit Sangarsha Samiti (DSS) said, under the Karnataka state government’s ‘Ashraya Vasathi’ scheme 2005-06 only Rs 20,000 was paid to the beneficiaries and later in 2006-07, 2007-08 and 2008-09 no installments were paid.

Dalit leaders SP Anand and Shekhar narrated the atrocities on Dalits and the agony suffered by them. Some of the leaders alleged that the cops were hesitant to accept complaints of atrocities on Dalits.

They also urged the SP for a police outpost in Charmady Ghat.

SP Dr S D Sharanappa in response to the complaints said, the complaints will be seriously dealt and directions will be passed to the concerned police stations to look into it. If it is found to be true, appropriate action would be initiated against the culprits as per law.

Dr S D Sharanappa said, the police department is always there to extend help to them. He also revealed the acute shortage of police staffs in the department.

Rama, Lakshmana, Shivappa, convenor Dalit Sangarsha Samiti, police staff and others were present during the meeting.
