Mangalore, January 24: Aziz Kudroli, Corporator and JDS leader; has alleged that rules are violated while handing over the Mangalore City Corporation garbage disposal contract to Antony Waste Company, which has made transparent about the widespread corruption.
”In the past, Rs 64 lakhs was paid per month towards the Mangalore City Corporation garbage disposal contract. This amount has not seen any changes since the past ten years. If at all, 50 percent was raised in the amount; the local contractors would have efficiently handled the garbage management. However, this rate is increased three-fold to 1.42 crores per month for garbage management and contract agreement has made with the capitalist company. The risk posed by this agreement is that the monthly expense of the waste management is going to hike and by the time the 7 years contract with the Antony company will get over, it will receive 4 crore per month. In this manner, the tax paid by the citizens are distributed to a private company ”, said Aziz.
Rules are violated even while handing over the contract. The tender process lasts six-seven months. As per rules, if the works are not begun within the six months, work should be re-tendered. Although 3.5 years has been elapsed after calling the tender, chance has been given to carry the work, he said.
Aziz further informed that, the waste disposal machines of AnotnyGarbage Disposal Company are not yet registered in the Transport Department. If the vehicles are not permitted to move in the city, then how can the waste be managed in the city? he queried. In such a situation, the company has inaugurated the work in on Friday in presence of urban development minister, he said.
False information to the court:
Antony Garbage Disposal Company has given false information to High Court stating that since January 1st, it has been managing the garbage. Today’s opening ceremony is the clear evidence of their untruth, alleged Aziz Kudroli.
Aziz informed that a case is filed on behalf of public interest in the High Court stating that the contract of waste management under the Mangalore City Corporation limits has been handed over to the Antony waste management company overlooking the rules. He said, during the investigations of this case, the Antony waste management company on pilot basis had disposed the garbage on December 15th-2014, and from January 1st– 2015; the waste will be disposed in complete proportion.
The company’s lawyer had produced a written statement to the High Court, stating that for 300 workers who are working are paid a sum of Rs 35 lakhs. But today (on January 23rd), the opening ceremony of the garbage disposal was held by which it is clearly evident that the garbage is not being managed since January 1st. Most important factor than this is; if it is such that the Antony waste Disposal Company is managing the garbage in the city, then the previous contractors and staffs of are paid till these days by the MCC why? questioned Aziz.
Aziz speaking further said, if it is such that Antony Waste Disposal Company is managing the garbage from January 1st in the city, then where are the document for the vehicles run by this company in the city since then? The organization has to answer even this query, informed Aziz.
