VTU likely to make internship a must

Belgaum: The Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) has planned to make internship mandatory for undergraduate and postgraduate students from the academic year 2014-2015.

Speaking at the VTU’s 13th convocation here on Tuesday, Vice Chancellor H Maheshappa said that internship will help students to gain hands-on knowledge of the subject along with theoretical expertise.

Minister for Higher Education and Tourism and Pro-Chancellor R V Deshpande presented the honorary doctorate conferred by the VTU on Sam Pitroda, advisor to the prime minister on public information, infrastructure and innovations.

Gold medallists

Among the toppers this year, Nabeel Mustafa, a student of Structural Engineering at Anjuman Institute of Technology and Management in Bhatkal, Uttara Kannada district, has bagged 12 gold medals and topped the university in Bachelor of Engineering. Mustafa from Kannur in Kerala said he would pursue research which will contribute to ensure better life for people.

Anushree R, a student of BNM Institute of Technology in Bangalore, secured eight gold medals in the Electronics and Electrical stream. A yoga instructor who is interested in painting, light music, dance and painting, Anushree is now working with a software company.

“I am inspired by Sir M Visvesvaraya,” says Waseem Ahmed Ahanger, a student of Vidyavardhak College of Engineering, Mysore, who has secured six gold medals in the Electronics and Communication stream. Ahanger from Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir has planned to pursue MTech in Very Large Scale Integration.

Another topper with four gold medals in Master of Business Administration is Apoorva Jain, a student of RN Shetty Institute of Technology, Bangalore.
