BJP’s Mandya candidate begins electioneering

B. Shivalingaiah, BJP candidate from Mandya Lok Sabha constituency, launched his electioneering here on Sunday, outside the Sri Arkeshwara Swamy temple in Guthalu Layout here.

Mr. Shivalingaiah, appealing to voters to support him in the elections, said that Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi should become Prime Minister. By electing BJP candidates across the country, voters should try to pave the way for this to be achieved.

The BJP candidate, a prominent Vokkaliga leader in the district, has clarified that workers in the party’s district unit were united and everyone would work for his victory.

Later, he visited the residence of the Horticultural Producers’ Cooperative Marketing and Processing Society Ltd. (HOPCOMS) president S. Nagendra and sought his support.

Soothing dissidents

Mr. Shivalingaiah, on Saturday, said that he would try to solve dissident activities in the party by taking activists into confidence.

The party was reportedly divided into two groups following the announcement of Mr. Shivalingaiah’s candidature from Mandya.

Party workers, demanding ticket to those who worked hard for the party, had staged a demonstration to protest against the decision to field Mr. Shivalingaiah here on Friday.

The BJP candidate, after accepting greetings from party workers here, said that he was aware about the developments and would try to set right the issue by taking party activists into confidence.
