Veena Naikar, Additional Senior Civil Judge and Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), has suggested that women make use of the laws that were constituted for their protection.

The Mandya District Advocates’ Association had observed International Women’s Day at its office here on Sunday.

Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the programme, Ms. Naikar said that women should be aware of laws to protect themselves from harassment and crimes against them.

Each and every woman must have knowledge of the law to protect themselves from unscrupulous elements. Legal awareness will help them to overcome the obstacles in their life, she said.

In order to curb crime against women in the society, governments have been implementing several projects.

District Principal and Sessions judge Chandrashekar Patil has also underlined the need to provide legal awareness to women, especially those residing in rural areas.

It is unfortunate that crimes on women continue even in this day and age, he felt.
