Bengaluru, March 23: Chief Minister of Karnataka Siddaramaiah has ordered a CBI probe into the death of IAS officer, D K Ravi. The Chief Minister made the announcement on the floor of the house today.
The case which was being probed by the state’s Criminal Investigation Department will now be officially handed over to the CBI. A CBI team from Delhi would be formed and they would take over the probe.
Union Home Ministry directive to be issued:
As per the rules now the Union Home Ministry would issue a directive to the CBI which in turn would form a team. A three to five member team is likely to be formed to probe the case relating to the death of the IAS officer.
The Karnataka government had in principle agreed to hand over the probe to the CBI on Friday itself. On Friday night, the Chief Minister had orally communicated to the Home Minister in New Delhi that the state was ready to hand over the probe to the CBI;.
However when a CBI probe is ordered, it is mandatory that the assembly is announced and a statement to this effect is made before the speaker whose approval too is needed.
Now an official communication would be sent to the Union Home Minister conveying that the state has ordered a CBI probe.
CBI will get to basics:
The CBI team which is expected to take at least another ten days to reach Bengaluru to probe this case would first summon the reports prepared by the CID which has been probing into this case.
They would once again question all the witnesses and rely on the list prepared by the CID. However the CID is also likely to get into the work aspect of Ravi’s and there have been allegations galore by the public that his death was related to his work.
The CBI would probe all angles which also include the personal angle which has been found in the probe by the CID.
