Bangalore: A head constable chased down one of the three men who had snatched the mobile phone of a constable near Central Library in Cubbon Park on Wednesday night.

The miscreants had waylaid the constable, who is attached to the VIP section in Vidhana Soudha, while he was walking near the Central Library on his way to Hudson Circle around 8 pm.

They browbeat him into handing over his mobile phone as well as cash. But the constable did some tough talking, saying he was a policeman and resisted their attempts.

But the miscreants managed to snatch his mobile phone and ran away. Just then, head constable Govindaraju of Cubbon Park police station, who was out on his rounds, saw the miscreants running.

He also saw the constable screaming for help. Sensing something amiss, Govindaraju went after the miscreants and managed to catch one of them while the other two ran away.

Govindaraju then took the miscreant to the police station. Based on his information, the police arrested his two accomplices.

The miscreants have been identified as Vijay, Sunil and Santosh. They were all working as helpers at the Bowring Institute and live in SR Nagar.
A senior police officer said, “The police top brass have lauded the efforts of Govindaraju, which will instil a sense security in the public.”
