Bangalore: Even though the possibility of allowing the illegal sections of Orchids The International School, Jalahalli, to function looks unlikely under the provisions of law, Kimmane Ratanakar, Minister of State for Primary and Secondary Education, has asked parents to wait for two more days for the matter to be considered by the Law Department.

While the parents are hopeful of a positive reply, they will consider taking a legal route in case the department decides otherwise.

Ratanakar was speaking to reporters after a meeting with parents on Thursday. “We are hopeful that the government will give the school permission to run the sections in question. But we will approach the court if this does not happen,” said a parent, who is also a practising lawyer.

Priya Ravichandran, another parent, whose child is in class 6, said: “My child is getting depressed that she is not going to school and asking me every day when it will reopen. Hopefully, the department will rule in favour of students and parents like us,” she said.

Ratanakar said a number of parents had expressed their views about the school and its teachers as being good. Also a number of them had even shifted close to the school so that their children could study there, he said.

According to him, alternative arrangements will be made if the legal department gives a negative reply.

“A number of schools have come forward to accommodate the students. There are other schools within the radius of two to three kilometers from the school where the children can go,” he said.
