Duo subjected to severe imprisonment

Mangalore, September 11: The district special court here has passed judgment Under Intoxicating Substances Act on Wednesday September 10th and sentenced two persons accused of ganja trading  to two years of extreme imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 each . They were accused of smuggling drugs.

Accused are G D Asif (37) resident of Casba Bengre here and Abdul Samad (35), a resident of Sabarabail in Sonandoor village in Beltangady taluk.

The then inspector of Coastal Security Police, Mukund Nayak, had conducted a raid on June 15th, 2009 and found 1.175 kg of ganja in the possession of Asif, and 53 ganja sachets with Abdul Samad. After investiging and collecting evidences, Nayak had filed charge sheet in the court.

On September 8th, the court had noticed that the charges against the accused had been proved. The chief district and session’s judge, Uma M G had announced the period of sentence on Wednesday. On behalf of the prosecution; the Public prosecutor, Pushparaj Adyantaya, had placed arguments in the case.
