Siblings drown in sea during fishing expedition

Udupi, July 23: Three brothers had set out to go fishing off the shore at Haradi near Brahmavar in Udupi district on Wednesday, but unfortunately two brothers drowned in sea and other brother was rescued by a local fisherman.

The deceased ones are identified as Suresh (32) and his brother Jayakar (30). The third brother Avinash was rescued by local fishermen and survived in the mishap.

As usual, the three brothers set out at the confluence of Swarna and Seeta rivers at Haradi for fishing on as part of their daily routine. At around 10 am on Wednesday morning, the boat they were fishing in capsized owing to strong winds and the three brothers began to drown. Although the local fishermen rushed to save the drowning men, they were able to rescue only Avinash, while the other two drowned.

The bodies of the two deceased were not yet found despite efforts by locals and the fire brigade personnel.

Preliminary investigation was conducted by Brahmavar police who arrived at the spot. A case has been registered.
