Mangalore, June 10: The government is pressured to fulfill the demands of laborers for payment of monthly PF pension to Rs.3000. It was done through a protest staged in front of the Employees’ Provident Fund building in Mangalore on June 9.
The demand was jointly made by Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) district committee and Karnataka State Employees’ Provident Fund Association district unit.
Balakrishna Shetty, State Employees’ Provident Fund Association district unit General Secretary, addressing the protesters said that despite the opposition from the employees for the implementation of amendment to the Provident Fund Act in 1995, the government implemented it. But, even after 19 years of the amended law coming into existence, the situation of suffering employees has not improved.
A monthly pension ranging from Rs 1 to Rs 150 is received by labourers. Following the protest by pensioners in front of the parliament, the Central government declared of hiking the amount to Rs 1,000 with effect from April 1, 2014. But, the government has cheated the labourers by not issuing a gazette notification in this regard, he alleged.
The protesters demanded the government to revise the pension amount to Rs 3,000 and issue a gazette notification at the earliest. They demanded for the immediate settlement of the issue.
