Udupi, May 16: Former Udupi Lok Sabha member and entrepreneur Irmudy Moodalakatte Jayaram Shetty (64) breathed his last after ailing for two years, at his Bangalore home on May 15, Thursday night.
Shetty, pursued his BE education in MIT Manipal, was a student leader.
In the year 1994, Shetty contested for the MLA election from Byndoor and won the election, while in 1998, he defeated Oscar Fernandes and won the Lok Sabha election. However in 1999, he was defeated against congress candidate Vinayakumar Sorake. Due to differences of opinion, Shetty resigned from BJP and Samata Party led by George Fernandes.
Shetty also established Moodlakatte Institute of Technology in a rural area and also set up two fertilizer manufacturing units in Bangalore.
He is survived by wife Vidya, daughter and two sons.
His final rites will be held in his native village on May 16, Friday at 10.30 am.
