Mangalore, April 24: It has been reported in the city that during a routine check at railway stations, airport and bus stands following DC’s instruction, 27 cartons of grinder mixers have been seized worth Rs 4.65 lacs at Central railway station on April 23, Tuesday by commercial tax department officials.
Sources said that a team led by Mahmood Khan,assistant commissioner of Commercial tax Enforcement-111, have seized the 27 cartons each containing 6 grinder mixtures (27×6=162) and total value of the seized items were vaguely estimated to be Rs.4.65 lacs.
Mahmood Khan said that under election commission’s guidelines followed by Harsha Gupta-DC, s instructions we have been conducting regular check up on a routine basis at all the above cited places and it was on April 23, Tuesday we found a large number of cartons lying at central railway station.
The seized cartons bear neither valid document under VAT Act nor an authorized claimant or any representative of the original claimant near the goods staked, we on suspicion seized the goods and kept in the commercial tax department.
It was learnt that the goods were inside the Mangalore central railway station bound train from Mumbai and as there was neither original claimant nor representatives, it was strongly believed that grinder mixers might have been brought to city for distribution among voters, he said.
