Suitcase containing 25 sovereigns gold falls off vehicle, stolen immediately

Udupi, April 9: A suitcase consisting gold weighing nearly 25 sovereigns was reported stolen after it accidentally slipped off  from the roof top luggage carrier of a Tata Sumo vehicle. The incident took place in front of the Mahalakshmi Temple at Uchila on April 7 Monday night at around 9 pm.

The valuables belonged to the family of Ratna and Venugopal from Padi Kudal in Thrissur. They had had come to attend a religious function at a relatives’ place at Padubidri.

They were being driven from the railway station to their destination by Haridas Bhat when the suitcase containing the jewels and some clothes fell off the luggage carrier. The occupants of the car heard the sound of the falling object, but they could not take a U-Turn immediately and had to take a turn at the Uchila bus stand.

However, by the time they returned to the spot the suitcase was missing and on enquiry with nearby shopkeepers it came to light that a bike rider who stopped on way picked up the suitcase and left.

It is learnt that, Haridas Bhat has lodged a complaint with Padubidri Police. Any information regarding the suitcase can be passed on to Padubidri police station (08202555452) or Haridas Bhat (9448445496). The owners have promised rewards to the informer.
