Addressing the protestors, the vendors threatened to hold hunger strike and also hinted at boy-cotting the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls if the demands are not met.

One of the vendors, Devika Baikampady said that the market leaks during rainy season and lacks proper storm water drains for the easy flow of rain water. Due to this the customers do not enter the market during the monsoon.

She also said that there are 50 fish vendors in the market, but do not have electricity, drinking water and toilet facility. Apart from it, there is nothing like cleaning or waste management in the market.

Although the vendors of Urwa market have submitted several petitions to the MCC solve the problem, no steps have been taken so far. The MCC have upgraded fish market in Surathkal, Padubidri, Kinnigoli, Haleyangadi and Katpady, Urva Market is left behind in spite of paying tax to MCC.
