51st National Maritime Day observed in NMPT

Mangalore, April 7: The New Mangalore Port Trust observed the 51st National Maritime Day Celebration on Saturday, the 5th April, 2014 in commemoration of the maiden voyage from Bombay to London on the 5th April, 1919, performed by the first Indian Vessel “S.S. LOYALTY’, which is owned by M/s Scindia Steam Navigation Company.

As a part of the National Maritime day Celebration the wreath laying Ceremony on the Seamen’s Memorial was held at 9.00 A.M. on 05.04.2014 by the Chairman with other Officers and  Port Users to pay tributes to the seafarers who had laid down their lives out at sea.

On the occasion of the 51st National Maritime Day Celebration, a Radio talk was delivered on the theme topic: “Maritime India – Exploring avenues for HRD” by Capt. Pais, Pilot, which was Broadcasted on 05-04-2014 at 7.45 P.M. in All India Radio.

Valedictory function was held at 03.30 P.M. at NMPT, Auditorium.  Mr. M.P. Pinto, Former Secretary, Ministry of Shipping, New Delhi, was the Chief Guest. Mr. P.C. Parida, Chairman, New Mangalore Port Trust, presided over the function. Mr.T.S.N. Murthy, Dy. Chairman, was the Guest of Honor. The local NMDC Committee President Capt. Pradeep Mohanty, gave welcome address.
