Mangalore, Mar 18: Famous poet and literary author Dr. Vasanthkumar Perla’s has bagged the Vishweshwarayya national award for his literature work ‘Oddolaga’ (collection of poems in Kannada). His work has been declared as the best work in the field of Kannada poetry this year. The award carries Rs. 3,000/- cash, a felicitation and plaque.
The juries noted that, the collection ‘Oddolaga’ deals with political and social subjects in a typical narrative way and show a different dimension. The brevity and conciseness in writing, the idioms and similes used in the poems are unique.
Dr. Vasanthkumar Perla is working as Assistant Station Director and Head of Program at All India Radio, Mangalore. He is a poet since last 30 years and has bagged several other awards. Over 25 books in Kannada including poetry, short stories, novels, literary criticisms, research articles etc are written by him.
