One-day camp for disabled will be at Wenlock Hospital on January 24: DC Ibrahim

Mangalore, Jan 22: DC A.B.Ibrahim said that a one-day comprehensive assessment camp for aides and appliances for the persons with disabilities will be held at the artificial limb centre of District Wenlock Hospital on January 24, Friday.

Addressing the press meet held at DC Office on Jan 22, Wednesday, he said the camp will be organized by the southern regional centre of Pt Deendayal Upadhyaya Institute for the Physically Handicapped (Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India).

He also said that the state government has sanctioned the amount of Rs 15 lakh for the distribution of aids and equipment to beneficiaries through their respective gram panchayats within two months.

Gertrude Veigas, DK Deputy Director of Women and Child Development said that beneficiaries will be distributed with artificial limbs, wheelchairs, tricycles, hearing aids, Braille slates, calipers for polio-afflicted patients, artificial knee joints and assistive canes for the blind or partially blind at the camp. The beneficiaries who have received the equipment will also be re-equipped, she added.

She also said that a team of 12 officers from New Delhi, Secunderabad and Chennai will visit the district to carry out the assessment work at the camp.

Speaking on the Endosulfan compensation, DC said that the concerned authorities have decided to implement welfare schemes for the Endosulfan victims and the victims will be issue with Identity cards from January 25 at the first phase. The identity cards for the victims will be issued in Kokkada centre on January 25.

The monthly pension of Rs. 3,000 will be given for victims with 75 per cent-100 per cent disability and Rs. 2,000 for victims with 50 per cent disability will be disbursed from the month of January 25.
