MANGALORE: Mangalore City Police are investigating a late Friday night incident where a group of four car borne miscreants allegedly kidnapped an individual NM Yogish Kumar, 27, of Tamil Nadu and robbed him. The incident took place when Yogish was waiting for his friend near Omega Hospital. In his complaint lodged with Mangalore East police station, Yogish claimed that the miscreants forcibly took him away and demanded money.
The miscreants who took Yogish towards BC Road forced him to part with his ATM card and its PIN number. When they found the accounts owned by Yogish did not have sufficient money they beat him up and returned the cards to him. They later robbed him off his iPhone, a gold chain weighing 20 grams and Rs 5000 in cash and dropped him off the vehicle near KSRTC bus depot at Talapady near BC Road before fleeing in the car, police said.
Kavita BT, assistant commissioner of police, Mangalore Central sub-division said the sequence of events narrated by Yogish in his complaint raise doubts and needs thorough probe. Nonetheless, a case of wrongful restraint, kidnap, voluntarily causing hurt, robbery and acts done by several people in furtherance of common intent under sections 341, 366, 323, and 392 read with 34 IPC based on Yogish’s complaint has been registered.
