15th Annual Orphanage Olympics- 2013

Mangalore, Nov. 27: The Rotary Club of Mangalore Central in association with Shastavu Sri Bhoothanatheshwara Temple Trust proudly announces ‘15th Annual Orphanage Olympics 2013’. This unique sporting and cultural event will take place from 9.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m. on 1st December 2013 at Shastavu Sri Bhoothanatheshwara Temple, Badaga Yedapadavu, Mijar, Mangalore said secretary of rotary club of Mangalore central Rajgopal Rai.

Spoke at the press club he said that about 600 children belonging to 10 orphanages in and around Mangalore are expected to participate in this program, which involves different sports activities in the morning session and cultural competitions during afternoon session. The program is being held at an expenditure of about three lakhs. In addition to prizes to the winners, all children will receive gift hampers.

K. Amarnath Shetty (Former Minister, Govt. of Karnataka) will inaugurate the program at 9:00 a.m. in the presence of the Chief Guests Rtn Pratapsimha Nayak (District BJP President), Rtn Dr. Bhaskar (District Governor Elect RI Dist. 3180) and Sri Vijaynath Shetty (Chief Co-ordinator of Shastavu Bhoothanatheshwara Temple Trust) he said.

The program will conclude with Prize Distribution ceremony at 5:00 p.m., during which  Abhayachandra Jain (Hon’ble Minister for Youth & Fisheries, Govt. of Karnataka) will be the chief guest. Rtn Dr. Arvind Bhat (Asst Governor, RI Dist. 3180 zone IV), Sri Umanath Kotian (Ex-President, Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy), Sri Mithun Rai (President, DK Youth Congress) and Sri Vijaynath Shetty (Chief Co-ordinator of Shastavu Sri Bhoothanatheshwara Temple Trust) will be the Guests of Honour he added.

He said that the annual Orphanage Olympics is a prestigious social service project started by our club in the year 1996 and it is now entering 15th year. Sense of belonging is very important for every person. Though orphanages take excellent care of children, the inmates are deprived of a normal upbringing in a family environment. As caring individuals, it is up to us to interact with the children regularly and make them feel special. Annual Orphanage Olympics is a step forward in this direction.
