Udupi; Oct 01: After inaugurating the “International senior citizen’s day” celebration on Oct 01, Tuesday organized by Brahmagiri lions club at Brahmagiri lions Bhavan, Vinaya Kumar Sorake, minister for urban development and district in charge said in his address that there are 15 private age old homes are there in the district and government has sanctioned Rs 8 lac to 25 benefactors in one of the age old homes.
He further said that government has approved senior citizen’s helping scheme project during 2013-2014 and government has sanctioned Rs 7 lac aid annually for the management of the age old homes. Identity card for the senior citizens, who crossed 60 years of age will be provided through volunteers organizations in each taluk. A total of 9336 cards have already been distributed as at August month ending.
Age old pension, Sandhya suraksha and other projects will be sanctioned by tahsildar office and for further information’s tahsildar’s office can be contacted. According to revenue department in district Sandhya suraksha is 40108 and age old pension is 2500.
The senior citizens, who have crossed 60 years of age, can avail the facility of 25% rebate on K.S.R.T.C bus fare by showing identity proofs like identity card issued by department, examination identity chit, identity card issued by the K.S.R.T.C, driving license etc. Any complaints in this regard, applications can be forwarded under senior citizen’s protection scheme to Kundapur assistant commissioner.
Kaup Vishwanatha Shetty has been selected for Rajya Prashasthi award for his contribution in social service in senior citizen’s individual or organizations category for the year 2013 .Shetty will be felicitated on 10.10.2013 at Bangalore in state level programme.
Senior citizen’s achievers in different fields have been felicitated during the occasion.
