Mangalore Gang Rape Case: Two Get Life imprisonment

Mangalore, Sep 21: The fourth additional district and sessions court on Saturday, Sep 21st, imposed life imprisonment and a fine of Rs.25,000 to the accused who had in the gang-rape of a 15-year-old girl at Central railway station here in 2010.

The accused Ashok (26) from Kemmane and Nishith (22) from Attavar were convicted. The third accused, Abdul Sattar (25) was was set free due to lack of evidence , while another accused, Sameesh, is still absconding.

The judge B.K. Naik pronounced the verdict. If they fail to pay the penalty, their imprisonment would be extended to two more years. The court also recommended the railway department to compensate the victim and stated that the department is for the public service and should take responsibility for the incident.

The victim, in July 14, 2010, a 15-year old girl from Odisha had escaped from a house in Kadri where she was employed and had come to the railway station and was waiting for a Goa train. Seeing her alone, one of the accused approached her and took her to a compartment and raped her along with two other men. Later, Child Helpline staff counselled the girl who narrated the incident to them.

The Government Railway Police arrested three persons barring the prime accused.
