Karkala: Life imprisonment awarded to accused Veerendra Poojary

Karkala, Sep 21: The Udupi district has sentenced Veerendra Poojary, aged 38, resident of Attur, an accused in the murder case of Sandeep Kulal, aged 29, a resident of Darkasu Mane, Nitte Kalambadi Padav, son of Thimmappa Kulal to life imprisonment.

Poojary was convicted for killing 30-year-old Sandeep Kulal at Nitte Attur Padav on April 23, 2012.
According to the sources Veerendra Poojary has borrowed a loan of Rs 20,000 from a Chit fund company being run by Santosh, brother of deceased Sandeep but he failed to repay him that was the beginning of the story.

On April 23, 2012, an altercation erupted between Poojary and Santosh’s brother Sandeep during a Mehndi function in one of the houses in the village. Enraged Poojary then went home, brought sharp weapon and went to the bus stand and waited there with the intention of killing Sandeep. As soon as Sandeep arrived there, Poojary confronted with him and killed him in cold blood. A case was registered in Karkala rural police station.
Justice B M Angadi who examined the case awarded life sentence and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on Veerendra Poojary as his guilt was proved. T S Jituri was the public prosecutor for the case.
