Saligrama: Two supporters of MLA Halady elected as President & VP in Saligrama Town Panchayat election

Saligrama;Sept 18: Sadhu P and Sulatha S Hegde, both are the supporters of Halady Shrinivas Shetty, an independent MLA have been elected unopposed as President and vice president  in Saligrama city Panchayat election, held on Sept 17, Tuesday. The president post was reserved for scheduled caste woman and vice president post was reserved for ordinary woman.

Out of 14 members contested in the panchayat election, 8 candidates won on BJP ticket and 6 are from congress ticket. 6 members from BJP were identified with Halady Shreenivas Shetty, an independent MLA during Vidhana Sabha assembly election.

The woman candidate Smt Sadhu P from Gendekere ward belongs to scheduled caste, who was identified with Halady, was the lone woman won on BJP symbol, has been elected unanimously as the president of the Saligrama city panchayat.

Lucky draw: The vice president post, reserved for ordinary woman has been decided through Lucky draw as there was a tie between both the contestants’ . Smt Sulatha S Hegde and Ratna Nagraj Ganiga has submitted their nomination for vice president post.

Since both have secured equal votes (7-7) decision of electing vice president was done through luck draw and Sulatha S Hegde, member of Pathalabettu ward, belongs to Halady group has been emerged as the winner in the draw for the post of vice president.

Guruprasad, Udupi tahsildar was present as election officer.

K Jayaprakash Hegde, MP and Halady Shreenivas Shetty, an independent MLA were present.
