Mangaluru, December 21: As per reports, the toll collection has begun from Sunday midnight at toll plaza situated near NITK in Suratkal.
Wide protests were staged regarding the toll collection here alleging that the construction was unscientific and that the basic facilities were not provided in the venue. Some time ago in this spot a heavily loaded truck while passing here had stuck to the roofing made here and the entire roofing had fallen down due to which the traffic movement was greatly affected.
The state high court on August 7th had dismissed a petition filed by Suratkal Nagarika Samithi against the construction of the tollgate. The court had also ordered police security at the place.
Amid police security, now the collection has begun from Sunday midnight, it is learnt.
