Rain in Chennai: People hailing from Dakshina Kannada stuck in trouble

Mangaluru, December 4: The people hailing from Dakshina Kannada have also got stranded in the rain affected Chennai. A nine member’s family from Vittal, which lives in Choolaimedu near CMBT bus stand in Chennai is stuck in trouble.

The nine member’s family of Ratnakar Joshi from Vittal includes three couples, and three children. This joint family lives in their own house in Choolaimedu since many years. Ratnakar Joshi, his wife Vijaya, elder son Suresh, his wife Vani, children Durgesh, Navya, Ratnakar’s younger son Harish employed as an engineer in Chennai, his wife Aparna employed in Chennai All India Radio  FM and son L Anish are facing problems in flood effected Chennai. Aparna is the daughter of author Shankar Kulavarma resident of Vittal Palike and Vittal Gram Panchayat former vice-president Shanta SN Bhat couple.

The ground floor of their residence is completely submerged in water and the house hold are staying in the top floors since three four days. Over a span of last one month, twice water had entered into their house. Due to the heavy rain fall in Chennai since the past few days, the vehicles parked in front of the house is completely submerged in the water. As there is no power supply, people have to spend time in darkness. People are facing a great difficulty to get the basic needs such as food, drinking water, etc, said the family of Aparna in Vittal.

The small quantity of pulses and grains that were stored in the house are being used now to gratify the hunger. The flooded surroundings appear like an island. From Thursday, the blinking mobile network is available. She had called to her parental house on Thursday morning and spoke to her mother through the mobile for a short while and narrated about the pitiable situation in Chennai.

As there was no power supply since the past two days, even the charge in the mobile battery is reducing. If the situation continues like this, the family is anxious that they might lose contact with their relatives. The place is cloudy and the people are waiting for the rains to stop.

Amin from Perla in trouble:

Amin, son of Moidu Haji, resident of Goonaje near Perla is pursuing Charted Accountant studies in Chennai. He also lives in the top floor of the building now. As the floors below are flooded, he is stuck in top floor. Amin lives in 2nd floor in a building located in Mount Road, Thousand Lights , Chennai. He is now facing food problem. Although two-three hotels in the locality have opened their shutters, at the present situation, the food items are very costly.

Half litre milk costs Rs 100:

Harish on Thursday morning has swam for about one kilometre through the water logged areas to by milk from the shop. There is a great rush for milk which is rarely available and he has paid Rs 100 for a packet of milk. Although there were plans to move to the native to get rid of difficulty, people could not do it as the vehicle and train transport system has also been effected due to floods.
