Man lured of winning lottery, loses money

Mangaluru, December 4: A person named Prakash R Shetty from Kallamundkoor village near Kinnigoly has lost about Rs 4.75 lakhs, after he was lured by a stranger who claimed that the former supposedly won Rs 25 lakhs in a lottery scheme.

It is gathered that, a few months ago, Prakash Shetty had received a call from a person who introduced himself as Sandeep Patil. The caller informed Prakash Shetty that the latter had won a lottery amounting to Rs 25 lakhs and said that some taxes were to be paid before claiming for this lottery amount. It is learnt that later, Prakash Shetty was remitting money as demanded to seven different account numbers as mentioned by the caller through a nationalized bank at Kinnigoli, it is learnt.

Prakash Shetty, also remitted some money on December 2nd, finally it stuck to him that he might have been deceived. He totalled up the amount so far remitted, and found that Rs 4.75 lakhs had been lost to the fraudsters. Later he filed a complaint at Mulky police station.

He also traced through the bank that the accounts of the person to whom money was transferred on different occasions were maintained in Jharkhand.

Prakash Shetty also provided account numbers, telephone numbers of the caller, fact that amount were being withdrawn immediately after they were deposited into account, and some other details to the police. It is gathered the even after Prakash Shetty filed police complaint, he received two calls from Sandeep Patil demanding to transfer money.
