Mangaluru, November 10: As the State government had decided to celebrate ‘Tipu Jayanti’ to commemorate the birth anniversary of “Tiger of Mysore”- Tipu Sultan; opposition was witnessed in Mangaluru against the celebrations.
It was noticed that on Monday late night, some persons had damaged posters and banners of Tipu Sultan that were put up at Mahaveer circle, in the city. Unidentified persons had garlanded the poster with footwear and had also smeared black ink on the posters. The incident came to light today morning.
The State government had announced celebration of ‘Tipu Jayanti’ on November 10th. In opposition to it, some destroyed the banners and posters that were put up in Pumpwell, Mangaluru. The organizers alleged that by damaging the posters and banners people have created a tense environment in the place.
Police have cleared the banners from the place and are investigating further.
