Youth assaulted by police after he accidentally touches woman.

Karkala, November 5: A youth was assaulted on Tuesday night allegedly by the police who took him to the police station over a minor reason.

The youth is identified as Raghavendra Moily (28) from Kukkundur.
It is said, Raghavendra had gone shop at Salmar to buy grocery. After buying the items, while he was carrying the them, his hand accidentally touched a woman, and as per eyewitnesses, it was not intentional. The woman got annoyed by this, complained to her husband- a police man who was standing near her. The police officer who grew angry over this matter immediately slapped Raghavendra, phoned to the police station and took the youth in a police jeep to the police station, said the eyewitnesses.

The youth Raghavendra came out from the police station being unable to walk after alleged assault by police. He went to the local government hospital on Wednesday and got admitted himself. Raghavendra has suffered blood clot on his hips, and suffered fracture in his fingers.  Raghavendra has alleged that the police assaulted him without any proper reason.

Devadiga Sangha condemns assault:

Ravishankar Sherigar, the president of taluk Devadiga Sangha has strongly condemned the assault by police on Raghavendra. He has submitted a memorandum to the district superintendent of police K Annamalai and urged for suitable actions regarding the assault.

  1. It’s a disgusting behaviour of Police personnel. Devadiga Sangha Karkal , without any delay took the action in taking up the matter with the competent Authority. Well Done, Mr.Ravishankar Sherigar. We must fight for the justice and condemn the atrocities of Policemen and help Mr. Raghavendra Moily for necessary medical treatment on priority.
