Karkala, October 23: In relation to the illegal storage of ammonium nitrate at a private property at Durga Tellaru near here, police have arrested a man on Thursday, October 22nd.

The property was raided by police team led by Dr Sumana D P On Wednesday October 21st, and ammonium nitrate stored in about 250 bags, each weighing 50 kilograms worth Rs 4 lakhs was seized. But the owner of the seized goods Biju T K was not found. He was arrested a day later.

It is gathered that, the property belongs to Wilson from Kerala and was given on lease to Biju T K some months ago. Biju T K began to stock the Ammonium Nitrate in the place which came to the attention of AASP Dr Sumana D P, following which the spot was raided. During a previous case, Biju T K had given his address as son of Kuruvilla and said that he resided at Thiruthikra farm. Now without information he changed his residence to Manipal, which delayed his arrest.

Previous cases:

In 2007, Labhu Ram, then AASP, had seized explosives at Ajekar and arrested a person named Biju. Kerala police with the assistance of Karkal police had arrested Biju and taken him to Kerala In 2010. But after some time, Biju T K managed to secure bail and continued with the same business later on.
