Udupi, October 20: A team of Youths from Udupi under the “Neralu-Neravu” fund collection campaign had collected donation amount of Rs 1,78,150; the cheque of which was handed over to renowned Environmentalist Salu Marada Thimmakka at Udupi press club.
A team led by Avinash Kamath, host of a private channel in Udupi conducted this campaign and collected a total of Rs 2,11,150.
They had also uploaded the information in Facebook and Whatsapp as well. In Facebook, Thimmakka’s account number was also mentioned. Those who observed this had deposited money to her account. Rs 33 thousand was deposited to the account. In the campaign, a total of Rs 1,78,150 was collected. Like this the “Nelralu-Neravu” team extended a assistance of a total of Rs 2,11,150 to Thimmakka.
Thimmakka speaking on this occasion said, as she had no children, she grew trees to forget her pain. I am finding my children in those trees. The trees I planted have grown up well. There are about a thousand trees that were grown. The government is not extending any help to grow trees. It is difficult to lead life without money, she said.
Umesh, foster son of Thimmakka, journalist Raveendra Deshmukh, snake expert from “Nelralu-Neravu” team- Gururaj Sanil, and journalist Shreekanth Shetty were present.
