Prashanth Poojary murder case: Four men arrested, five accused absconding.

Moodbidri, October 19: About nine days after the murder of Prashanth Poojary, a flower vendor and a Bhajrandhal activist that took place on the early morning recently in Moodbidre town, police have been successful in arresting four accused in relation to the murder.

The prime accused Mohammed Haneef (36), resident of Adaypadi, including Mohammed Ilyas (27), resident of Moodbidri; Ibrahim liyakat (26), resident of Bantwal; and Abdul Rashid(39), resident of Mulki have been arrested, informed the Mangaluru City police Commissioner S Murugan.

Addressing a press meet at his office here on Sunday, October 18th; police Commissioner Murugan said, total of six members have a direct link in this murder case while three others have indirectly assisted in this case. Six accused came in three bikes and murdered Bhajrangdhal activist Prashanth Poojary. The deceased Prashanth Poojary was an active worker of Hindu association, and as he was involved in some cases that took place at Gantalkatte and at Moodbidri; this murder was done to avenge the revenge, informed the Commissioner.

In relation to the murder, four persons have been arrested and the rest of the accused will soon be arrested. The arrested are thoroughly investigated to collect the information about the other three accused and they have provided information about them. All the accused are from Bajpe, Suratkal and Mangaluru areas. It is also being investigated about whether the accused are part of any associations, informed the Commissioner.

The arrested have confessed during investigations to the police about their involvement in the Prashanth murder case including the assault on Ashok and Vasu that took place in Handelu and also in the Jayanath Kotian assault case, informed the Commissioner.

No information about the calls from abroad:

The key eyewitness of this murder Vaman Poojary was probed regarding the murder. But no relevant information could be collected from him. Hence he was not subjected to more questioning. Later on he committed suicide. We do not have any information about the calls made from abroad to Vaman Poojary in relation to this murder, clarified the Commissioner.

The commissioner lauded the police officers and police personnel’s who were successful in arresting the four accused. The commissioner also said that all the members who took part in this operation will be felicitated.

In the press meet, DCP Shantaraj (Law and Order) and DCP Sanjeev M Patil (Crime Branch) were present.
