Mangaluru, October 13: The ten day long Navaratri celebrations began at Kudroli Shree Gokarnanatheshwara Temple here with the installation of the nine idols of Goddess Durga in the temple’s auditorium on Tuesday October 13th.
Police Commissioner S Murugan lighted the lamp on this occasion.
Addressing the gathering, S Murugan said, god is one. Religion is to unite people; it should not divide the people. Leave the bad and take the good, is the message preached by Brahmashree Narayana Guru. This is a happy occasion for all the people of Mangaluru, he said.
During the nine-day celebrations, deities of Shree Sharada Devi and Navadurgas Shaila Putri, Brahmacharini, Chandra Ghanta, Kushmaandini, Skandaputhri, Katyayini, Kaalaratri, Maha Gauri and Sidhidaathri will be invoked.
Cultural programmes will be held at 6 pm every day at Santhoshi Kala Mantap.
Devotees in large numbers flocked to the temple to seek blessings and participate in the celebrations.
The celebrations will culminate with a grand procession that will be held on October 23rd from 4 pm onwards.
On this occasion, Shubha Murugan, H S Sairam, president, Kudroli Temple, temple managing committee members Raghavendra Kulur, B K Taranath, K Maheshchandra, Padmaraj R, B Devendra Poojary, and others were present.
