Nandigudda Crematorium land issue – huge protest staged by VHP at Nandigudde Crematorium.

Mangaluru, October 12: Massive protest was staged by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) district unit and the Bajrangdal unit on Sunday October 11th against the demand placed for a portion of the Nandigudda crematorium land by a Mosque.

Moideen Juma Masjid and Noorul Islam Madrasa have asked the district administration to provide 26 cents out of the 2.58 acres of the Nandigudde crematorium land for use as burial ground for the Muslim community. Objecting to this, the protesters went on a rally on Sunday from Attavar to Nandigudda crematorium where a protest meet was held.

VHP district president Jagadish Shenava addressing the protesters said, the Nandigudde crematorium is reserved only for Hindus. Here there is no provision for other communities. In case, if people move forward neglecting the opposition, he warned that strong protest will be held in future.

Leader Jitendra Kottary said, in Dakshina Kannda district majority of the people’s representatives and officers belong to the minority community. By demanding even land of the Hindu crematorium and testing their tolerance is not wright. The Hindu community will not tolerate this, he said.

VHP district joint secretary Shivanand Mendon said, the Jeppu mosque had asked for 2.58 acres of land of Nandigudde crematorium. MLA Mohiuddin Bava had given the recommendation letter to the Deputy Commissioner. As the Vishwa Hindu Parishad had objected to this; now, in survey number 251/1 where mainly the tomb of a Dalitoddarak Kudmal Ranga Rao is located, the administrative procedures are taking place for the reserving that land as Muslim Public Crematorium. In case, any procedures take place in this direction, then strong protest is inevitable, he said.

Vasanth Shetty – President of Nandigudda Crematorium Committee said, Nandigudde is a peaceful area. In case, the land of Nandigudde crematorium is given to the Muslims, it might lead to unrest. Considering the effects that might take place in future, it is better not to give chance for the Muslims burial ground here, he said.

The leaders of the association, Krishnamurthy Kateel Dinesh Pai, Gopal Kuthar, and others were present during the protest.
