Pregnant woman and children to be vaccinated under Indradhanush project: Minister Khader

Mangaluru, September 25: In order to boost up immunity in children and pregnant woman, the Indradhanush vaccination program will be held from August 7th for four months in 17 districts across the state including Dakshina Kannada and Udupi.

Health Minister UT Khader informed this in a press meet here on Thursday, September 24th.

The Indradhanush in the first phase was implemented in eight districts of the state and 99% success has been recorded. In the second phase in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Mysuru, Kolar, Gadag, Haveri, Bidar, Belagavi, Davanagere, Tumakuru, Ramanagara, Chikkaballapura, and in Chitradurga districts it will get implemented.

In this project which is implemented with the aid from Central government, the vaccination campaign will be held from 10th to 17th each month from October to January. The Asha workers will visit each home and vaccinate the kids till two years who are not given the immunity vaccines and also the identified pregnant woman will be vaccinated. This program will be held in similar to pulse polio program, he said.

Non communicable diseases control program:

On pilot basis, in Dakshina Kannada and Davangere districts vaccinations will be provided for prevention of diabetes, blood pressure, cancer including other non communicable diseases (NCD) which will be implemented under Karnataka health system development and reform project. The inauguration program, information to the peoples representatives and training is scheduled on October 5th at Dr TMA Pai international convention centre here, informed Minister UT Khader.

Treatments for various diseases:

The NCD are long term diseases which include the coronary artery diseases, diabetes mellitus, angina pectoris, different kinds of cancer and injuries due to accidents. The individuals aged over 30 years will be tested for high blood pressure and diabetes mellitus. For the preliminary tests of cervical cancer, 30-59 year old woman will be identified, he said.

The treatments will be available in all the 66 primary health centres across the district, 8 community health centres, 4 taluk hospitals and in district hospitals. On contract basis, 93 nurses are appointed. They will visit each house and collect the information from the patients with NCD and arrange for treatments and free medicines under Arogya Shree project, informed Minster UT Khader.

DK district health and Family Welfare officer Dr Ramakrishna Rao, Dr Prakash, Dr Sadashiva were present among others.
